Trout fishing in the desert? It’s true.

A trout-fishing tournament in the drought-stricken desert might seem as sensible as a high-stakes poker tourney in Mormon country. But as odd as it may seem, it’s time to dust off your rod and reel, get those hands grubby with some filthy live worms, and fill the cooler with Keystone Light because competitive angling is alive and well in the West Valley.

While making an effort at capturing fishies in Valley lakes can be as productive as washing a car before a dust storm, the Litchfield Park Kiwanis Winter Trout Fishing Derby livens things up when Tierra Verde Lake Park is stocked with more than 500 pounds of trout.
