Kabab Palace

710 W. Elliot Rd., Ste. 108
Tempe, AZ 85284
480-775-6288
The absence of Afghan restaurants from the local scene was exactly what prompted Haroon Sherzai and Jalal Achakzai -- who used to run an Afghan eatery in San Francisco -- to set up shop in this area. Of course, the fact that Kabab Palace is the only game in town doesn’t diminish the tastiness of the food. The lunch buffet gives customers a chance to sample a wide swath of the menu, although dishes like aushak (leek- and scallion-filled ravioli with garlic-mint-yogurt sauce and savory ground beef sauce) and dwopiaza (a vibrant sauté made with marinated grilled leg of lamb, yellow split peas, and marinated onions) are worth returning for, come dinnertime. And once you’re there, don’t be surprised if strong Turkish coffee and homemade desserts give you reason to linger.
